Requests for adding new contextual data to the Restricted Use Contract Data

While the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study offers Public and Restricted Use data which address a wide range of research topics, we recognize that some researchers may want to add new contextual data to our existing Restricted Use Contract Data. Therefore, we offer a service to merge new data based on FFCWS survey respondents’ residence or school with the purpose of: 1) helping researchers answer new research questions which cannot be resolved using the existing data, 2) expanding the study with the new merged data.

If you are interested in requesting to have new contextual data added to the FFCWS Restricted Use Contract Data, we recommend that you begin by reviewing the documentation for the wide variety of the files in the Public Data and Restricted Use Contract Data to ensure that your research question cannot be adequately addressed by the data that is available in our study.

Applying for merging new data is a two-step process including a preliminary application and the Restricted Use Contract full application. If you already have an active contract data license, please submit only the Preliminary application.

Preliminary application – Submit the New Data Preliminary Application Form with a draft of your structured abstract and a CV for each person who will be included in the application, to the Center for Research on Child and Family Wellbeing (c/o [email protected]) in order to get preliminary approval.

The full application for adding new data is the same as the Restricted Use Contract Data full application with the exception of the application fee. Please see the How to Apply page for instructions.

The service fee for adding new data to the Restricted Use Contract Data starts at $3,000 and varies depending on the complexity of the data request. We will provide an estimate of the cost if your preliminary application is approved.
